Right now, New York State has the third largest population of people serving terms of life imprisonment in the country. Over 30,000 of our loved ones, neighbors and friends are incarcerated in state prisons. A Utility Thermal Network is the most efficient and cost-effective way of heating and cooling buildings. With the help of Con Edison and the City of Mt. Vernon, some residents of the city may have an opportunity to enroll in a pilot project that will upgrade the participating residents' heating, cooling, and hot water systems to a thermal network at no cost to them. These residents would enjoy lower utility bills and safer, more comfortable, and pollution-free heating and cooling. Scaling up such networks will eventually pay a huge role in cutting greenhouse has and co-pollutant emissions from New York's building sector, which is currently the largest source of such emissions in the state.![]()
