Dear Friends of East Ramapo Schools, Parents and Children,
This a call for JVP-Westchester support and outreach. In this situation, as in others we face, the organizers seeking a strong Jewish and Interfaith turnout. Parents and children in the East Ramapo (ER) School district need our support. The crisis in their schools – a hostile school board, more than 10 years of austerity budgets, racial discrimination, and buildings declared unsafe and with lead in the water – is on the agenda. We hope you can show your support for ER parents and children at their parent-led forum on Saturday February 24, 11:00 am-1:00 pm at the Spring Valley Salvation Army Community Center. At you can see from the attached flyers for the event, this is about grassroots organizing by the parents and community themselves. We are showing up to show support.
Aside from being a cause we as individuals would want to support, it presents the potential for outreach and relationship building between the Jewish, Muslim, Latinx, and Black communities.
New York State Board of Regents Chancellor Young and regional Regent Willis will be present to listen to parents’ concerns and requests. In this context, we hope for a robust show of Jewish, Interfaith and social justice network support. Please share widely with your communities. We understand Saturday may be difficult for some of us. Many of the parents are employed by observant Jews and Saturday is their only day off.
Please share with your Jewish, secular and interfaith communities. We hope to show Chancellor Young broad solidarity in Rockland County and beyond.
