Susan Sheppard spent her career with the Greenburgh Central School District as a teacher and has also taught art to teachers at Mercy College.    $20 per class.  All contributions to support WESPAC:

From Susan: An art journal is a “visual diary.”  In addition to (or maybe in place of ) words, the journal keeper uses visual images to portray his/her thoughts and feelings. During these very stressful times an art journal can serve as a little haven in a world of madness.

My vision of this class is having the participants create an art journal over a series of workshops with or without the guidance of prompts combined with a variety of art techniques.   For example, for the first class I would like to prepare the first few pages for future work and creating a self-portrait using collage.  The prompt would be “The Me Nobody Knows.”  The class would occur over several weeks depending on interest.   Each participant would have to provide a “journal”  (water color pad, composition book, or a hard cover book) , magazines and images that appeal to them, and writing tools of their choice.  I would provide other tools and materials.

Some techniques are collage, printing, stenciling, drawing, painting, Zentangle, etc.  The prompts can be whole class , personal to the participants, or pulled from a jar.

Dear Nada,

Here are a few photos.  It is hard to see the “moving parts” from photos.  The first one is a cover, the others are pages.  There are pockets, niches, and pull outs to hold secret thoughts.

Release Aging People in Prison

Dear WESPAC comrades and friends,

I’m writing to ask as many of you as possible to join us at an all-day parole justice advocacy day on Tues, Jan. 29th in Albany. The day is hosted by Release Aging People in Prison/RAPP, Parole Preparation Project and other advocates and communities across New York. We’ll march, rally and meet with legislators in support of our advocacy demands (see http://rappcampaign.com/wp-content/uploads/NEW-RAPP-Fact-Sheet.pdf). It is critical right now to show the policy-makers in Albany that our communities are watching them and will continue our fight for justice.

RSVP HERE: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeN6blXUUhOT5jkQTBILkfF8oG-mDSdL7set3Ma-TcZYfCqAw/viewform to join us on January 29th in Albany (IF ANY LINKS don’t work, please go to RAPPCampaign.com/events – everything is available there.)

Free transportation will be provided from NYC and other regions of the state as needed. Food will also be provided.

Can we expect to work together again, as we all have in the past? If so, how many of you can attend?

We have a real chance this legislative session to ensure that all incarcerated New Yorkers have a fair and meaningful opportunity for parole release. Join us on January 29th and help us get there.

Thanks,
Laura Whitehorn

Dear Nada,On Nov. 14, Con Edison, the City of Mt. Vernon, and NY League of Conservation Voters will give an introductory presentation at the Doles Recreation Center at 6:30 pm for a utility thermal network proposal. Please see the attached flyer in jpg and pdf. A Utility Thermal Network is the most efficient and cost-effective way of heating and cooling buildings. With the help of Con Edison and the City of Mt. Vernon, some residents of the city may have an opportunity to enroll in a pilot project that will upgrade the participating residents' heating, cooling, and hot water systems to a thermal network at no cost to them. These residents would enjoy lower utility bills and safer, more comfortable, and pollution-free heating and cooling. Scaling up such networks will eventually pay a huge role in cutting greenhouse has and co-pollutant emissions from New York's building sector, which is currently the largest source of such emissions in the state.Thank you!Anshul--Anshul Gupta (he/him)Policy & Research Director, New Yorkers for Clean Power[email protected]201-357-0794 ... “The Democratic Party really underestimated the extent to which lots of people in this country are in crisis.”

The Muslim ban is real, and it just happened to me at Harris's rally today in Royal Oak, MI. They kicked me out without any reason, even after I received confirmation to attend and passed a security clearance at the gate. After I was seated, they called me and asked me to leave…

A win in the courts! For the first time, a federal court has confirmed what Palestine Legal & partners have long asserted: applying the distorted IHRA definition of antisemitism to student speech at public unis is unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination: https://www.cair.com/press_releases/breaking-cair-obtains-federal-court-ruling-against-texas-unconstitutional-crackdown-on-student-criticism-of-israel/
