Did you know that Wheelabrator’s Title V Air Permit expired in December 2021?
Do you wonder how the county can keep burning our trash?
Come find out!
Major emitters of air pollution must have a Title V Air Permit to operate. Wheelabrator is the largest industrial air polluter in Westchester. The trash incinerator’s Air Permit, issued to the Westchester County Industrial Development Agency, expired in December 2021. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is responsible for issuing these permits and there are over 100 expired permits throughout the state.
We will discuss the implications of these expired permits for our health and our environment and provide an update on the Wheelabrator’s permit. We will lay out our plan to challenge renewal of the permit and how we can push for DEC to address the public health emergency Peekskill is facing from incinerator pollution.
Representatives from New York State DEC and WIN-Waste have been invited to attend.
