WCPR hosts a conversation with Deputy Superintendent Cheryl Morris (Ret.)
 
In the context of recent horrific violence against Robert Brooks and Messiah Nantwi in NYS prisons, WCPR will host a conversation with Deputy Superintendent Cheryl Morris (Ret.) who is a speaker with LEAP, the Law Enforcement Action Partnership.  The Law Enforcement Action Partnership is a nonprofit organization composed of police, prosecutors, judges, and other criminal justice professionals who use their
expertise to advance drug policy and criminal justice solutions that improve public safety. With 200 speakers across the United States, LEAP representatives reach millions of Americans each year through educational programs and media interviews.

Cheryl Morris, Deputy Superintendent (Ret.) began her law enforcement career in 1992 with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. In 2010, she was promoted to Director of Ministerial, Family, & Volunteer Services. In this role she managed daily operations, drafted agency policy, and advised on religious accommodations, volunteer services, and family services. In 2016, Morris was promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Program Services at Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch, New York. In this position she supervised approximately 450 employees, 150 volunteers, and 930 justice-impacted individuals. She also drafted and implemented facility policies and rehabilitative programs, fostering a rehabilitative environment for the incarcerated population. 
 
Deputy Superintendent Cheryl Morris (Ret.) is an active member of Black Leaders World Wide, the Association of Women Executives in Corrections, the NIC Project-National Corrections (NCC) Project Taskforce, the American Jail Association, and the Center for Community Alternatives Coalition. She is also an Auditor for the American Correctional Association and a Felony Youth Diversion Board Member. 
 
Ms. Morris is currently the CEO of a Criminal Justice Consulting firm, CVM-Enterprises, LLC. She specializes in policy and compliance evaluation, development, and implementation. She also provides comprehensive reentry services and specialized training services tailored for criminal justice personnel.
