From WASS:
Join us TOMORROW February 13th on Zoom for: “Where does your garbage go? Burning trash in Westchester” with a legislative update from Senator Pete Harckham!
Ever wonder where your garbage goes after you throw it away? It’s trucked to the Wheelabrator trash incinerator in Peekskill which burns over 2000 tons of trash per day- generating air pollution that harms our health and our planet.
Most Westchester County residents don’t realize their refuse is burned and their neighbors in Peekskill are being harmed by the resulting pollution. Thankfully solutions are available to make our waste system more just and sustainable.
Please join Westchester Alliance for Sustainable Solutions (WASS) tomorrow, February 13th at 7:30pm on Zoom to learn about the harms and alternatives to burning Westchester County’s garbage. We will be joined by Senator Pete Harckham (SD40), chair of the Senate Environment and Conservation Committee for an update on legislation in Albany to address plastic pollution.
