From the Greenburgh Human Rights Advisory Committee:
A few of us who are members and leaders in the local community wanted to make sure you had received the attached very important invitation, and the article link below, for information as to the Village of Tarrytown’s upcoming celebration of the Juneteenth holiday, marking the last day in 1865 when freedom was declared to remaining individuals who had lived in slavery under Confederate control, to attend an outdoor program with Alvin Ailey’s Revelations Community Dance Workshop, to take place at Pierson Park on Saturday, June 17 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
This Village-sponsored program is said to be truly extraordinary and offers a rare occasion in Tarrytown to celebrate Black history through the arts, which is a traditional way of celebrating the holiday – and to support and offer appreciation to the extraordinary members of our local Black community.
We all ought extend a broad thank you to the Tarrytown Board of Trustees and in particular to Trustee Thomas Mitchell for their initiative in this area and for this unique, participatory, special occasion. We hope to see you there. An article link is here:
