Stand with Minisink; Stand against gas industry

Dear Friend,
I invite you to join me in support of members of the community of Minisink, Orange County, NY and The Mothers Project, founded by Angela Monti Fox, in a peaceful rally organized in front of the NYC office of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, 780 Third Avenue (between 48th and 49th St.) on Tuesday, July 9th at 4:00. The community and its supporters will protest the Senator’s inaction during the struggle against the siting of a gas compressor station located in this bucolic residential and farming community. I’m asking you to support this important action as I will stand with families of Minisink as they travel to NYC to confront the failure of the Senator to respond to the pleas of the people she is elected to represent.
The crisis in Minisink, NY demonstrates the unrestrained excesses of the gas industry as it continues to demand the sacrifice of more and more American communities; in this case a community of hundreds of young families, including many 9/11 first responders. Throughout the two year struggle, the residents repeatedly attempted to elicit the help of their elected officials to no avail. They are most disappointed by the inaction of Senator Gillibrand who often identifies herself as a mother and 9/11 first responder advocate. Now, despite a pending Federal court case, the 12,260 horsepower compressor station is completed and is spewing carcinogens and neurotoxins into this once pristine community, impacting the health of the very same national heroes that Gillibrand so often invokes.
The Senator has ignored the community’s numerous requests to come to Minisink and meet with the community so they’ve decided to bring the community to her, as residents will present the Senator with a letter outlining specific ways that she can step up now. Should Minisink win its case, it would set a precedent for the many other communities that are struggling to protect the health of their most vulnerable citizens against the power of the gas industry.
