Monday March 9 — Sarah Lawrence – Women’s Rights Movement
A new edition of my memoir about the 60s is out, and it being Women’s History Month, Sarah Lawrence students invited me to talk about that experience. I’ll also be doing a reading from that book at Bluestockings on International Women’s Day, Sunday March 8, 7PM.
Tuesday March 10 — Columbia U – Doctrine of Discovery
The original reason for coming to NYC at all was an invitation from Columbia’s International Indigenous program. It will take place at 7:30 pm at Columbia’s Faculty House on March 10. Although it’s organized for a small seminar, it’s also open to the public. The title of my talk is “Culture of Conquest and the Doctrine of Discovery: The United States as a Colonial Settler-State,” and yes, it drawn from the book. The event a seminar (open to the public) in a special course taught by a Greek international law specialist, Elsa Stamatopoulou, who recently retired from the UN staff where for many years she has been in charge of the Indigenous rights division at the UN, quite an intellectual herself.
Thursday March 12 — Brooklyn College – Settler-colonialism and Palestine
The event at Brooklyn College at 6:30 PM, Thursday, March 12, is organized by the Palestinian students on campus, and I’ll talk about settler-colonialism.
