After the rally, we will need all hands on deck to stay for the public forum hosted by the New York State Decommissioning Oversight Board (DOB) inside the Cortlandt Town Hall. We need to send a clear message that Holtec’s plan to turn the Hudson River into a radioactive dumping ground must be stopped now!

Holtec International, the company decommissioning the Indian Point nuclear facility, plans to dump over a million gallons of contaminated waste from the highly radioactive fuel pool on the site into the Hudson River this summer. The discharge of radioactive waste poses a serious threat to public health, our vital water supply and ecosystem and to the Hudson Valley economy. The Hudson River is a tidal estuary, flowing in both directions from New York Harbor to the Federal Dam in Troy. It is the drinking water supply for more than 100,000 residents in 7 municipalities, while millions of New Yorkers also depend on it as a backup water source. The Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area was designated by Congress and is a prime destination for boating, swimming, kayaking and fishing. Tourism alone in the region is a multi-billion dollar industry employing over 60,000 workers. A few days ago, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection denied Holtec’s permit to discharge over a million gallons of radioactive wastewater into Cape Cod Bay from the Pilgrim nuclear facility it is also decommissioning.
It’s up to Governor Hochul to stop Holtec’s plan in New York. It’s time for the Governor to step up and take urgent action and sign the Save the Hudson bill today!
