January 28, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Concerned Families of Westchester will hold a rally, “Stop Trump’s Anti-Immigrant Agenda,” on Saturday, January 28th, in Hastings.  We will meet at noon at the VFW Plaza (Warburton and Spring St.).  The rally will include the words of refugees, immigration lawyers, politicians, some ordinary folks, and we’ll also have some good music.  Let’s keep the momentum going!  For more information call 478-3848 or email [email protected].

To the Editor: [To be published on Friday in the local paper]

On the train ride home after last Saturday’s fabulous Women’s March in NYC, the words on everyone’s lips were, “We have to keep this momentum going.”  For many months, President Trump has promised that the deportation of millions of immigrants will be at the top of his agenda.  To protest this outrage and to keep the Resistance momentum going, Concerned Families of Westchester invites everyone to join us for a rally on Saturday, January 28th, whose theme is “Stop Trump’s Anti-Immigrant Agenda.”  We will meet at the Hastings VFW Plaza (Warburton and Spring St.) at noon.

The goal of our rally is to send a message that the residents of the Rivertowns will do what we need to do – and ask our public officials to do what they need to do – to protect immigrant workers, to stop deportations of young people who have gained protections under Obama’s “DAPA Program,” to end the detention of immigrant families, to extend compassion to those coming to our borders as refugees, and to grant more Family Visas.

We must acknowledge that Americans know little about our complex immigration laws.  The nation’s conscience was hardly rippled when the Obama administration deported three million people last year. Now we are saddled with a government that claims that it will deport eleven million people.  This should be unacceptable to anyone who believes that our country should follow the rule of law and extend a hand to those seeking our help in time of need.

Please join us on Saturday at noon in Hastings to keep the momentum from last week’s demonstrations strong, and to start by organizing to defend and support our immigrant sisters and brothers.
