New Rochelle Against Racism Talk Series

August 14, 2023 @ 7:30 pm

New Rochelle Against Racism (New RoAR) is advancing the work of the city’s new Youth Justice and Equity Team (YJET) with an online community education series designed to help keep young people out of court through education, training, and community support.
Under the leadership of Judge Jared Rice, YJET includes representatives from the New Rochelle Police Department, the New Rochelle School District and My Brother’s Keeper, the Westchester Department of Probation, the Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle, and others. The team experienced a week of training together with the Center for Juvenile Justice Reform at Georgetown University and formally launched the project at City Court on June 2.
To broaden the New Rochelle community’s understanding of YJET’s work and the juvenile justice system, New RoAR has invited the community to participate in a series of weekly online discussions based on the award-winning book, “The Rage of Innocence: How American Criminalizes Black Youth,” by Kristin Henning. The series will begin on Monday, August 7, at 7:30 pm. The author, Kristin Henning, will join the meeting on August 14 to speak about her experience as a defense attorney in juvenile court in Washington, DC, and to answer questions from the community.
To receive a link to join these discussions, please send an email to [email protected].
Books can be purchased through the Humble Bumble Bookstore and other book sellers. Some free copies are available by emailing [email protected]
