From the Poor People’s Campaign – NYS:
This past Tuesday, we held press conferences in the Bronx, Rochester, and Elmira, announcing that hundreds of poor and low-income New Yorkers, religious leaders and advocates will converge on Albany next Saturday to demand an end to poverty in one of the wealthiest states in the richest country in history. Similar events were happening simultaneously across the U.S., proclaiming that in this critical year, millions of poor and dispossessed people are organizing to bring our demands from our state houses, to D.C., to the ballot box, and beyond.
Today we released a new video from Tuesday’s powerful press conferences. Check it out below, and sign up to join us in Albany on Saturday, March 2! We’ll be joining our siblings in the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival in 31 other state capitals across the country, bringing the demands of poor and low-wealth people directly to our lawmakers.
In Albany, this action comes in the midst of a critical New York State budget fight. For months the Hochul administration has been signaling the need for an austerity budget, and just last month her proposed budget reflected that, including cuts to public services and an overall failure to address ongoing crises around healthcare, housing, and education in New York State. Join us in Albany to demand our legislators and governor refuse the politics of austerity, prioritize the needs of poor and low-income New Yorkers, and fully invest in healthcare, housing, living wages, education, voting rights, and protecting the environment.
