Iona College Week of the Peacemaker

November 6, 2013 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

For over thirty years Iona College has chosen the time period following (or just before) Veterans Day to dedicate academic and co-curricular attention to peacemaking.  This year’s theme is:

Swords into Plowshares: Seeking Peace in a Violent World

Some highlights:  On Wednesday, November 6 at 12:30 PM, Nick Mottern will present “Know Drones: Understanding the New Face of Warfare.”  On Wednesday evening, the Berry Forum for Ecological Dialogue will sponsor “Living the Integrated Life: Non-Violence and Sustainability,” with Brayton Shanley and Suzanne Belotte Shanley, Founders and Directors of Agape Community.  And on Thursday, November 7 at noon, Mark Barden, father of a student who was killed at Sandy Hook Elementary nearly a year ago, will make a keynote presentation, “A Promise to Sandy Hook.”  On Sunday, November 10, the week will close with a lecture by Katharina von Kellenbach on “The Christian Response to the Kristallnacht November Progrom.”
