Despite the pandemic disproportionately impacting immigrant communities, millions of undocumented immigrants including DACA recipients, TPS holders, and farmworkers, continued to work as essential workers to provide for their families and our communities. Yet, undocumented essential workers have not seen any legislative action that will provide a long-awaited path to citizenship.
In March, the House of Representatives passed the Dream and Promise Act, which would provide a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients and TPS holders. Senator Schumer has spoken positively about the issue and said that immigration reform is a high priority for him. But the Senate has still not taken action. The DACA program remains in jeopardy, TPS holders continue to remain in limbo, and millions of undocumented essential workers are at risk of deportation. As Congress moves forward with an infrastructure package, it is imperative that Congress include relief to immigrants who have been an integral part of our communities and economy, before and during the pandemic.
Now more than ever, we need to be united to ensure we make this possible this year. Join our rally and march at Foley Square on Friday, July 23rd at 12PM in to make this demand clear — Immigrants are Essential!
