2020 TIAA-Divest! Academic Zoominar with Bill McKibben September 16th

September 16, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

2020 TIAA-Divest! Academic Zoominar with Bill McKibben September 16th, 6:30 PM EDT

The TIAA-Divest! Team has been busy over the summer and we’d love to bring you up to date on our activities and TIAA’s continued financing of fossil fuel and deforestation projects. So, to kick off the 2020 academic year, we’re inviting you to join the 2020 TIAA-Divest! Academic Zoominar with special guests Bill McKibben (350.org) and Katelyn Kriesel (Divest NY) on September 16th at 6:30PM EDT.

RSVP to save your spot for the TIAA Divest! Academic Zoominar on Sept. 16

Many TIAA participants including educators, non-profit workers and other public service employees aren’t aware that TIAA invests over $11 billion in fossil fuels and deforestation agribusiness. TIAA calls itself a leader in social responsibility, but the company’s actions prove otherwise.

This will be a busy, interactive session, kicked off by guest speaker Bill McKibben. We’ll work together with you to plan ways you can apply meaningful pressure to TIAA to divest from climate destruction. See our four key demands here.

Here’s a sneak peek at our agenda. We invite you to register yourself and a colleague/friend for a spot at our Zoominar!

Guest Speakers:

  • Bill McKibben, activist, prolific author and co-founder and Senior Advisor at 350.org on why it’s critical that TIAA stops investing in fossil fuels.
  • Katelyn Kriesel, financial advisor at Hansen’s Advisory Services and DivestNY member on divestment and Socially Responsible Investing.

Update on TIAA-Divest! – What we’re doing, the nasty stuff TIAA’s been doing and what we’ve learned from meeting directly with TIAA’s “Responsible Investment” team.

Breakout Sessions:

  1. Students and other activists
  2. Faculty and staff

Get Ready for Action – Take the ideas, plans and brainstorms that took root in the breakout sessions and begin planning for meaningful action this Fall and Winter.

We encourage anyone who cares about TIAA’s climate hypocrisy to register for the Zoominar but we particularly urge faculty, staff and students to join us on 9/16: RSVP here!

In Solidarity,
The TIAA-Divest! From Climate Destruction team

PS: Please sign and share our divestment petition! 1000 signatures will get the attention of CEO Roger Ferguson and TIAA’s other top management!
