Greetings,
An exciting new political conference is taking place in Westchester County, and we want you to be a part of it! The Westchester Black Political Convention recognizes that our county has become both a more diverse yet unequal county. To be recognized as one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, policymakers face the urgent challenge of confronting growing wealth gaps by race and ethnicity. The goal of Westchester Black Political Convention is to create a more equitable and secure future for communities of color through public policy. We believe, we must shift away from public policies that fuel and exacerbate racial disparities in wealth, housing, education, economic development and criminal justice and mobilize our community to endorse and employ public policies that empower communities of color.
The Westchester Black Political Convention is born out of the idea of the historic first National Black Political Assembly (NBPA), formerly known as the Gary Convention that was held on March 10, 1972, in Gary Indiana. The NBPA gathered around ten thousand African-Americans to discuss and advocate for black communities that undergo significant economic and social crisis. Part of their goal was to raise the number of black politicians elected to office, increase representation, and create an agenda for fundamental change.
We invite you to our first annual political conference which will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2018, from 1-5pm at WESPAC at 77 Tarrytown Rd., Suite 2W, White Plains, NY 10607. Please park on the upper level (free parking on site). At this event we will have panelists who will speak on four of our policy issues; they are economic development, education, public policy and community engagement.
We, as an integral part of the voting bloc in Westchester, implore you to attend to hear from your community. We are expecting every elected official who touches Westchester County to participate in this exciting day of change and policy implementation from the community perspective. You will be in the room with all of our elected representatives in local, county, and state governments. Thank you in advance for being a part of this movement in Westchester. Let’s make history together!
We are asking a small donation of $25 to help cover the cost of the event.
