My name is Dr. Rana D. Hobson and I am a member of the Social Action Committee of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.– Westchester Alumnae Chapter.
I am writing this email as an invitation to our upcoming exciting event which will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 . Our committee in collaboration with our chapter’s Arts and Letters Committee, and the White Plains Youth Bureau, presents the showing of the film “13th” followed by a Forum on Mass Incarceration.
13th is a 2016 American documentary by director Ava DuVernay. The film explores the “intersection of race, justice and mass incarceration in the United States”. It is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which freed the slaves and prohibited slavery (unless as punishment for a crime).
We are excited to have a panel of professionals to lead the discussion and our goal is to educate our youth, as well as adults, on the significance of this film and to bring awareness to the topic of Mass Incarceration.
Please encourage your High School aged youth to attend and spread the word!
