“Reframing Westchester’s Housing Crisis” Talk at CUUC
Sunday, October 29, 11:45 a.m.
White Plains, NY, Sept. 20, 2017 – Alexander H. Roberts, Executive Director of Community Housing Innovations (CHI) and founder of the Westchester Workforce Housing Coalition, will speak on “Reframing Westchester’s Housing Crisis” at the Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation at White Plains on Sunday, October 29, at 11:45 p.m.
CHI is the largest provider of housing for the homeless outside of New York City, with 1,000 people in its facilities each night. The agency guides families and individuals from homelessness to home by providing emergency, transitional, and permanent housing with an array of supportive services. The agency also encourages homeownership with counseling, education, and down-payment assistance. In recent years, Roberts has spoken out against the zoning policies that have made the New York Metro area the second most segregated in the U.S. and driven young adults from Westchester’s richest suburbs.
According to Roberts, “Since 2009, Westchester’s affordable housing policy has been guided by the Federal Consent Decree with HUD. However, the election of President Trump has upended that paradigm, requiring a new approach that fosters inclusion and equality of opportunity.”
CUUC is located at 468 Rosedale Avenue, White Plains, NY 10605. This event, co-sponsored by the congregation’s Racial Justice Team and the Hunger and Homelessness Team, is free and open to the public. Childcare can be provided if requested by Monday, October 23; send request to [email protected].
