FAST and IFTAR DINNER ON JUNE 13
IN SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINIAN PRISONERS
JVP-Westchester and WESPAC invite you to fast on June 13 in sympathy with the conditions of the hundreds of Palestinian political prisoners. They are demanding that the conditions of their detainment meet international standards.
This day-long observance will culminate in White Plains with a talk the evening of June 13 by Professor Rahab Abdulhadi and an iftar dinner, the traditional Muslim meal after sundown that ends the days of fasting during Ramadan. Professor Abdulhadi is a senior scholar of Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diasporas (AMED) Studies at San Francisco State University. The evening starts at 7pm at the WESPAC office located at 31 Mamaroneck Ave, Suite 403 in White Plains. Professor Rabab will start her talk at 7:30pm and the iftar meal will start at 8:30pm. Israel has detained nearly half of all Palestinian men. In the United States, about one-third of African-American men can expect to be jailed. As we fast in sympathy with the Palestinian hunger strikers, we also stand in solidarity with the movement to end mass incarceration in the United States.
This hunger strike was launched on April 17 and lasted for 40 days. The goal of our sympathy fast is to raise public awareness of the Palestinians’ plight and to galvanize media attention to an issue that has been largely ignored.
