JOIN THE STOP DRONE KILLING CHURCH VISIT – APRIL 17 2016
Dear WESPAC Colleagues:
Over 6,000 people have been killed by U.S. drone attacks since they began in 2001 in Afghanistan. This estimate from the Bureau of Investigative Journalism is really an under-estimate because it includes only those attacks in Afghanistan since the beginning of 2015 and those in Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen. Not included: Iraq, Syria and Libya.
And we must remember that the killer drone is key to the U.S. military intervention strategy that has shifted from mass invasion to killer drone/special forces intrusion, as is happening now in Iraq, Syria, Libya and other parts of Africa.
In the face of this escalating violence, we are asking you to join us in bringing our concerns to the Westchester County religious community, beginning with a visit that we will be making at 10 am on Sunday, April 17 to the White Plains Presbyterian Church, 39 North Broadway.
At 9:45 am we will stand outside the church with a large replica of an MQ-9 Reaper drone and hand out a leaflet that carries the letter of four drone whistleblowers arguing that drone war helps generate terrorism, and a letter from religious leaders calling for a halt to U.S. drone attacks. One of us will also speak during the announcements portion of the services asking congregants to call for an end to drone attacks.
If you would like to participate, please be in touch with Martha Conte at 914.282-5468.
We hope you will join us.
