In January 2013 Phyllis Rodriguez was chosen by lottery to spend a week
at Guantanamo Bay to witness the tribunals. The lottery consists of victims’family members, survivors and first responders involved in the attacks ofSeptember 11, 2001.It was a life-changing week full of eye opening experiences regarding rights
of capital defendants in military trials, as well as the strange and disturbing life on a US military baseoccupying the eastern tip of Cuba. She learned about practises of the Pentagon/Military Prosecutor thatare direct threats to so many constitutional rights we take for granted, and that we assume are sacred.
