Dear Members of WESPAC,

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Jennifer Schidlow, and I am a resident of Larchmont, NY. I am reaching out to seek your support and expertise regarding a proposed development at 2399 Boston Post Road, which has raised significant environmental concerns among local residents.

The project is adjacent to sensitive wetlands that play a crucial role in our local ecosystem by managing stormwater, mitigating flooding, and supporting biodiversity. We are concerned that the current development plans may adversely affect these wetlands and the surrounding environment.

Our community is advocating for the following measures to ensure the project aligns with best practices for sustainability and wetland preservation:

  1. Comprehensive Soil Testing and Remediation: Given the site’s history as a former gas station, we request thorough testing and remediation of contaminated soil to depths of 15-20 feet to ensure environmental safety.

  2. Effective Stormwater Management: Implementation of permeable pavement and mechanical separators to treat runoff from the parking lot and building roofs, preventing pollution from reaching the wetlands.

  3. Preservation of Mature Trees and Native Vegetation: Prioritizing the planting of fast-growing evergreens and preserving existing mature trees to maintain year-round screening and mitigate environmental impact.

  4. Expanded Removal of Invasive Species: Extending invasive species removal efforts to include the property lines bordering 14 Deane Place, fully restoring the ecological integrity of the area.

We recognize that this is not an exhaustive list of considerations, as we are not experts.

We would deeply appreciate your support in advocating for these changes. Your voice as a trusted organization could make a significant difference in ensuring the project aligns with best practices for sustainability and wetland preservation.

If it’s possible for a representative from your organization to attend the upcoming planning board meeting (December 11th at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Senior Center, 1288 W. Boston Post Road, Larchmont, NY 10538) or to submit a letter in support of these concerns (ANambiar@townofmamaroneckny.org), it would be a powerful show of solidarity for our community and the environment.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Please feel free to reach out if you need additional information or clarification.

Best regards,

Jennifer & neighbors
