By Design: A Film Series with RAPP and the Center for Constitutional Rights

Join the Center for Constitutional Rights and Release Aging People in Prison (RAPP) on September 15, 2022, for the final event of our Freedom Flicks Film Series “By Design.”

You’re invited to an evening reception and screening of The Interview, followed by a discussion with the film’s protagonists, as well as community activists and organizers. The event will then open up into a community discussion inviting the audience to join the growing movement to end the harms of the criminal legal system and to imagine a future of justice and healing.

In Jon Miller and Zach Russo’s “The Interview,” formerly incarcerated people describe what it’s like to attempt to convince a group of strangers that they are more than the worst thing they ever did. The filmmakers give us a glimpse into the struggles of those battling the New York parole commission. 

Following the screening, the panel will dive into a discussion with the protagonists, Tracey Bowe, Anthony Dixon, and Mark Shervington, and attorneys from the Center for Constitutional Rights on the continued fight to dismantle the criminal legal system and in particular, the parole system in New York State.

By Design | Freedom Flicks Spring/Summer 2022 Season 

The Center for Constitutional Rights is proud to present By Design, our Spring/Summer 2022 Freedom Flicks Film Series. This season tells a story of a carceral society and a criminal legal system that is cruel, unjust, and racist, by design. With films exploring the harsh realities of immigration detention and the racist legacy of Jim Crow, audiences will be invited to consider the shared roots of these systems of confinement and social control. Join us for evenings of storytelling by those most impacted by these systems, and for discussions featuring filmmakers, activists, and members of the Center for Constitutional Rights staff. Our hope is that in recognizing these oppressive systems as not broken but rather designed to dehumanize, criminalize, and exclude marginalized communities, we will demand an end to these systems and collectively commit to building life-giving institutions of safety for all.
