Divest NY Teachers’ Virtual Lobby Day

 

Despite two years of pressure from teachers, students and climate activists, the New York State Teachers Retirement System (NYSTRS) has refused to divest its $145 billion dollars in assets from climate destroying fossil fuels. Last December, in response to legislative pressure, NYSTRS released its Climate Change Action Plan. However, this plan did not take any meaningful steps toward divestment or protecting the teacher’s pension from climate risk. We need to tell the legislature, loud and clear, that we can no longer allow NYSTRS to continue to fund the destruction of our planet. If NYSTRS won’t divest, the legislature must pass the TFFDA to require them to divest!
