This is a big one!! This is Say NO TO AMAZON WEEK. NO! to Amazon’s hostile take over of Orange County; NO! to their hostile takeover of our scarce water resources and their pollution of our air, water, soil; NO! to their hostile takeover of our rural yet critical transportation corridors (our roads); NO! to over One Hundred Million Dollars in taxpayer subsidies. Just like with CPV they want us to pay them to poison us.
And make no mistake they are being brought to keep CPV in business, consuming 9.5 MW of power for their robots. That’s enough to power 9500 homes, 3X the power consumption of the entire Town of Wawayanda. So AMAZON should be renamed FRACKAZON! Even worse ratepayers will also be paying for the real cost of that power.
Now if you remember our testimony from 2015, we warned that when you build a power plant of this magnitude other energy intensive businesses will want to be nearby. That is exactly what you see happening now. Moreover Amazon is central to a Monster Mega-Warehouse Plan to build 10 Warehouses and a garbage dump within 2 miles around CPV, industrializing 6 million square feet of the area, near several environmental justice communities. Wawayanda is a protected class 2 agricultural district so if they get away with this, every large plot of land is fair game.
This week kicks off with the most important PUBLIC HEARING, where AMAZON, a 2.1 TRILLION DOLLAR company, comes to the ORANGE COUNTY IDA with begging bowl in hand asking for over $100,000,000.00 in taxpayer subsidies. MEETING TUESDAY JUNE 10TH 6PM AT MINISINK MIDDLE SCHOOL. 2320 ROUTE 6 SLATE HILL, N.Y. 10973. We need everyone at this meeting!! James Cromwell and I will both be there!! Bring friends, neighbors, aunts, uncles, cousins!!!
Then WEDNESDAY JUNE 11TH 7PM TOWN PLANNING BOARD MEETING 80 Ridgebury Hill Road Slate Hill, N.Y, where Amazon wants the town to skip a full environmental review.
Thursday JUNE 12th 7PM TOWN ZONING BOARD where AMAZON wants a height variance to go from the current 55 feet limit to 104 feet, for a 3.2 million square feet, the 6th largest size warehouses in North America. This is also at the Town Hall, 80 Ridgebury Hill Rd. Slate Hill.
