Position Overview:
Proyecto Faro is seeking an experienced bilingual community organizer to train a group of immigrant public-school parent leaders in community organizing skills and methods, and to support them in developing a strategy for empowering parents to influence their school district’s future. The context is a high stakes struggle for educational justice for the public-school children of the East Ramapo Central School District (ERCSD), which serves a predominantly immigrant community with a high percentage of English-language learners. For the past 15 years, a supermajority-white ERCSD school board, who send their own children to local private schools, has systematically defunded this high-needs district.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a full-time bilingual Community Organizer to support immigrant power-building in Rockland through our mutual aid and organizing programs with a focus on working with immigrant parents of public school students. This position will involve engaging and organizing these and other community leaders, training them in advocacy and grassroots organizing strategies, and supporting them in the development and implementation of focused campaigns aimed at systemic change. This person will also cultivate the effectiveness of related coalitions and teams and strengthen partnerships with other organizations and allies.
