Librarians and Archivists with Palestine is proud to announce They Called Me a Lioness: A Palestinian Girl’s Fight for Freedom by Ahed Tamimi and Dena Takruri as our pick for the 2025 “One Book, Many Communities” international reading campaign!
In this memoir, Ahed Tamimi shares her experience growing up under Israeli occupation in the West Bank, her unexpected rise to fame, and her time as an imprisoned Palestinian youth. We encourage volunteers to organize events around this important and critically acclaimed memoir that Kirkus Reviews describes as “passionately argued [and] profoundly empathetic.”
The purpose of the “One Book, Many Communities” goes beyond the year’s selected text. We aim to introduce readers to the richness of Palestinian literature and create broader awareness and understanding of Palestinian history and the struggle for liberation.
To support organizing efforts, we have created a resource guide and a toolkit. Our campaign page provides further information about They Called Me a Lioness and our previous “One Book” titles.
If you hold your event in March or April, it will connect you to a global community of readers. Use the hashtag #lap1book on social media to connect your event to the campaign. Let us know about your event! We would love to help promote it.
Feel free to contact us at lap1book@gmail.com with any questions or comments about the “One Book, Many Communities” campaign.
