The documentary The Strike will premiere on PBS Independent Lens on Monday, February 3rd (next week!). It will be available for free streaming on the PBS YouTube channel starting on February 3rd, and it will be available on PBS Independent Lens, PBS YouTube, and PBS Passport through the end of April. You can get more info, including about local listings, here.
Info about the film: The Strike tells the story of the Pelican Bay hunger strikes in 2011 and 2013, led by people who had endured decades of solitary confinement. We are particularly proud that the film features the advocacy of Dolores Canales, one of SWASC’s Advisory Board members! Watch the trailer here.
Watch the film on your own or… have a watch party! If you are part of a faith community or congregation and want to organize a watch party, you can apply for a mini-grant through the vital organization NRCAT (the National Religious Campaign Against Torture). NRCAT is offering $250 mini-grants to support event expenses and community advertising for faith community members who want to organize a showing of the film. If you are interested, you can apply here.
Finally, regardless of if you’re watching the film on your own, with a group of loved ones, or organizing a larger showing, there is also a discussion guide (which I helped create). Request it here.
