Community, Environment, Faith and Labor Unions Call on Congress to Stop Fast Track for Job-Killing Trade Deal

Fast Track Legislation for the TPP Would Slash Jobs, and Cut Environmental and Consumer Protections

Advocacy groups from Westchester, including WESPAC, will hold a press conference on Saturday, February 1st, in White Plains, NY, to oppose recently-introduced Fast Track legislation for the massive Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Currently, the TPP is being negotiated in secret between the United States and 11 Pacific Rim countries including Japan, Mexico, Malaysia, and Vietnam, which are 40% of the world economy.

NAFTA and WTO, which like the TPP mostly cover issues not directly related to trade (such as tariffs or customs and border crossing), were pushed through using the Fast Track process – resulting in massive job losses, less safe food, and overturned environmental protections.

Folks attending this event will urge all members of Congress to oppose the newly-introduced Bacaus/Camp Fast Track legislation.  Members of Congress from both parties have already declared their open opposition.

Please hold the date and help end another trade deal that off shores jobs, hurts the environment and cuts consumer protections.
