On Monday, May 13 2019, advocates from around the state will be gathering in Albany for the NYCLU's statewide Day of Action. Register NOW to be at the forefront of transforming New York's policies. We are showing up to demand a New York that protects the civil liberties of all New Yorkers.
Our Day of Action is a great way to get involved in the legislative and advocacy work of the NYCLU. There will be workshops, lobby visits, and activities to help encourage our elected officials to take action on the issues that matter most to us.
Join us as we stand up for immigrants, fight hate, protect democracy and defend justice.
Participants will receive training in advance of the Day of Action (see below). We will provide transportation, meals and there will be NYCLU giveaways.
Register now to secure your spot, and we will be in touch with further details. Please register even if you are “just thinking about it”!
We look forward to seeing you there! Day Of Action Training Available
We will be hosting a volunteer training to prepare for lobby day on April 23rd from 6:30-8:00pm at WESPAC in White Plains (updated direction here). The training will provide information about our issues, help you learn the legislative process and prepare you to visit your elected officials. Together we can ensure the rights of all New Yorkers are protected.
Sign up when you register for the Day of Action. You can also attend this training even if you aren’t planning to join us in Albany.

I know at least three people who need a ride from the White Plains area to attend this important lobby day in Albany to ask our state government to divest the NYS pension fund from the 200 worst fossil fuel corporations.
It is the day before the WESPAC annual dinner and I must be present to attend to last minute details.
Is anyone here going and willing to drive folks to Albany? The WESPAC office would be a great meeting place with free day long parking and very central. Please let me know soon!
After years of campaigning, the $200 billion New York State Public Pension Fund could finally divest from fossil fuels. And it’s all thanks to a new bill in the State Legislature: the New York Fossil Fuel Divestment Act.
The Act is having a full legislative hearing at the end of the month. This is a tremendous opportunity for our movement to put New York on track for a Fossil Free future and deprive the fossil fuel industry of $13 billion in annual investments.
Let’s show our legislators that the people of New York need the Fossil Fuel Divestment Act. Join us on April 30 at the Capitol to attend the legislative hearing — RSVP today.
According to a recent analysis, the state pension fund could be $22 billion richer if Comptroller DiNapoli had divested from coal, oil and gas companies a decade ago. That’s nearly $20,000 per pensioner! Keeping the pension fund invested in fossil fuels is risking the financial future of New Yorkers and actively contributing to climate change simultaneously. It’s past time to do something about it.
By packing the hearing on April 30, we’ll send a powerful message to legislators that their constituents are watching, and that we expect them to do the right thing for our communities and climate. It’s going to take all of us to hold our elected officials accountable, and that’s why we need you.
Come to the Capitol on April 30 to pressure legislators to support the Fossil Fuel Divestment Act — RSVP here.
Once you sign up, an organizer will get in touch with more details and answers to any questions you might have.
Working together, we can shift New York towards the Fossil Free future we deserve by fully divesting the state from fossil fuels.
