Growing White Plains Project Coordinator
Salary Range $15 – $20
Salary commensurate with experience
The White Plains Youth Bureau is looking for Project Coordinator for
the Growing White Plains program, to oversee a one year grant program
funded by the Westchester Community Foundation. The Coordinator will
have two central responsibilities: overseeing two community agriculture
sites to develop productive and healthy gardens using only organic
methods, and delivering environmental education programs to young
people, families and adult community members using the gardens as a
primary but not exclusive resource. The environmental education will
focus on such issues as recycling, energy conservation, composting,
local and organic food growing and community gardening, and healthy
nutrition. The fruits of the garden projects are all donated to the
White Plains Ecumenical Food Pantry to help feed families and persons in
need.
The position will require an average of 12 hours per week during the
course of the year, from July 2011 through June, 2012, with a somewhat
flexible schedule. During the school year, must be available during
after school hours (3 to 6 pm). Continued employment is subject to grant
funding renewal.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Successful applicant will show a demonstrated
history of expertise and involvement in organic gardening, knowledge of
and passion about environmental issues, and experience and skills in
working with groups in an educational setting. Bachelor’s degree in
related field of study required.
Knowledge of Spanish would be a great asset but not a requirement.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid license to operate a
motor vehicle in NY State. Driver’s license with a clean driving
record required.
