It's simple: war crimes are not a “charitable purpose.” The #NotOnOurDime Act makes clear that charities registered in NY must not aid and abet war crimes by revoking the non-profit status of organizations funding Israeli settler violence.
Israeli settlements have been the primary driver behind Israel's expulsion and dispossession of Palestinians from their land. Over 700k Israeli settlers currently live on 250 illegal settlements, which have carved the occupied West Bank into isolated Palestinian bantustans.
Israeli state & settlers work in concert to remove Palestinians from their land, deploying a combination of discriminatory laws, military force, as well as private violence (often backed by the military). This was on full display earlier this year: bit.ly/3OdhB7n
Although these settlements are all illegal under international law, many of them receive funding from organizations registered as charities in New York State. Between 2017 and 2019 alone, these "charities" funneled at least $144M to Israel and its illegal settlements.
These charities include the Central Fund of Israel, Friends of Ir David, American Friends of Ateret Cohanim, the One Israel Fund, and the Israel Independence Fund.
By allowing these organizations to continue operating as non-profits while funding ethnic cleansing and war crimes, New York State is subsidizing these atrocities. The #NotOnOurDime Act would end this practice and signal that NYers do not support human rights abuses.
As New Yorkers, we have a basic responsibility to ensure that our tax dollars aren’t funding human rights violations overseas. If @NewYorkStateAG won't hold these charities accountable to state and international law, we will. #NotOnOurDime![]()

New York State is complicit in violations of international law by subsidizing illegal Israeli settlements, and apartheid. We strongly support Representative Zohran Mamdani's new bill addressing this issue.![]()

The New York Public Banking Act would pave the way for local governments to establish public banks that leverage public dollars for investments in critical community needs like affordable housing and small business development, renewable energy infrastructure, and fair financial services (check out this great 2-minute animated video to learn more about public banking: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ47RwMIPR4 ).![]()
Right now, leadership in the State Senate and Assembly is deciding what will be on the agenda for the remainder of the legislative session. Public banking has massive support from New Yorkers across the state and is co-sponsored by a majority of the Senate. However, Wall Street is lobbying hard behind the scenes to stop the bill. ![]()
We know that organized people can beat organized money, which is why it's time for New Yorkers to call Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and demand that they stand with New York communities and bring the New York Public Banking Act to a vote.![]()
