POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Advocacy Director

 

The Center for Social Inclusion (CSI) is a national intermediary
organization. CSI works to build a fair and just society by dismantling
structural racism.  We partner with
communities of color and other allies to create policy strategies, leadership
capacity and multi-racial alliances to end racial disparities and promote equal
opportunity.  With our partners we
conduct applied research, develop policy reform ideas, translate them for the
public, engage in public education activities, teach our communities and
convene stakeholders. CSI works at the local, state and national levels, with a
geographic emphasis on the Southern United States and New York. CSI is also building
its relationships with the field of organizing nationally. CSI is creating a
new mid-level management position to support the organization’ s ability
to meet organizational and project goals.

 

FULL-TIME:  40 hours per week

SALARY
RANGE:      $60,000 – $75,000

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Advocacy Director’s essential functions are to assist the
organization and its partners in development of policy reform ideas and
strategies to transform the current structural arrangements that produce racial
inequity. The Advocacy Director conducts policy research, develops reform ideas
and models with staff and allies, builds organizational relationships, and
develops and executes public education strategies. Public and ally education
activities includes designing tools to support policy reform activities and
public will-building, as well as communications activities to win policy
reforms
at local, state and national level. The Advocacy Director works closely
with all organizational staff to support advocacy strategies connected to
on-going projects and programs. As necessary, the Advocacy Director supports
fundraising activities.  

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Developing
    policy reform strategies to advance organizational goals;
  • Conducting
    and reviewing research;
  • Drafting and
    editing reports and creating other advocacy tools;
  • Developing
    dissemination strategies for reports and advocacy tools;
  • Developing
    communications strategies to advance organizational policy goals and
    building public will for racial justice policies;
  • Identifying
    and developing relationships with potential organizational and individual
    partners for project activities;
  • Working to
    build a stronger field that supports racial justice;
  • Supervising
    project staff (Advocacy Coordinator, Researcher, Research Associate), when
    appropriate;
  • Designing and
    facilitating meetings to develop and move ideas and network relationships;
  • Participating
    in workshops, conferences, panel discussions.

 

 

SUPERVISION:

The Advocacy Director reports to the Director and the Associate
Director. 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Demonstrated
    commitment to social justice and antiracism work;
  • A minimum of
    five years experience in social justice advocacy;
  • A minimum of
    two years supervisory experience;
  • Strong
    analytic skills, particularly related to structural transformation and
    race;
  • Strong
    strategic thinking skills;
  • Strong
    interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to develop
    strong working relationships with other organizations;
  • Ability to
    supervise staff to ensure project goals are met;
  • Ability to
    work closely with others in a small office environment;
  • Strong organizational
    skills;
  • Strong
    communication skills, written and oral;
  • Strong
    meeting facilitation skills;
  • Completion of
    at least a Masters Degree in a relevant social science (e.g., political
    science, economics, sociology) or a law degree;
  • Competent in
    the use of Access, Windows, Excel and Power Point.
