#YemenCantWait Rally

January 26, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Dear Friend,

I hope you’re well! We warmly invite your organization to endorse our upcoming #YemenCantWait Rally. We are planning this rally outside of Senator Schumer and Gillibrand’s Manhattan office building (780 3rd Avenue, between 48th and 49th Streets, NYC) for 11:00AM on Friday, January 26th. We are planning this rally as part of a large informal coalition of organizations committed to ending U.S. support for the Saudi-led war on Yemen.

We would be honored if you would participate in this rally. We expect speakers to cover a range of topics, related to a central theme: Yemen Can’t Wait. We will also be inviting press.

Will your organization endorse this rally? If so, please email Kate Alexander at [email protected] stating your organization’s name and willingness to endorse.

The rally will follow meetings, the same week, with the offices of Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand. By the time of the rally, we believe new legislation will be in the Senate, using the War Powers Act to bring to a vote ending U.S. support for the Saudi-led intervention. This rally will be a key part of demonstrating ongoing, constituent pressure to end U.S. participation in the war on Yemen.

Yemen is at the center of the world’s worst, man-made humanitarian disaster. Over 10,000 people have died from the conflict, 1 million people are impacted by the cholera outbreak, and 22 million people are food insecure, with millions on the brink of famine. Funeral halls, homes, hospitals and markets in Yemen are being bombed by the Saudi-led coalition, with U.S. assistance and U.S. weapons. With millions on the brink of famine, and in the middle of a cholera outbreak, the U.S.-supported Saudi-led coalition blockaded Yemeni ports, weaponizing aid that millions depend on. The United States must end all U.S. support for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

Join this rally outside of Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand’s NYC offices because #YemenCantWait. We rally to prevent further catastrophe and famine, and demand an immediate ceasefire, an end to all blockages on access for food, fuel and medical supplies, and U.S. investment in a new, inclusive peace process in which women, youth and diverse civil society can meaningfully participate.
