Storytelling in Action!

May 3 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

From Madison at Planned Parenthood!

Good afternoon!

I hope this email finds you well. Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic has two exciting events happening in May that we wanted to bring to share with you!

The first is a Storytelling in Action Training hosted by guest facilitator Eve McDavid on Tuesday, May 3 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. This training will prepare participants to share their stories and fight against sexual and reproductive health stigma, whether it be through social media, writing and publishing an article or post, or public speaking.

Why is this storytelling training so necessary? In just the first three months of 2022, more than 500 anti-abortion restrictions were filed in 41 states. We are also increasingly seeing states pass bills targeting LGBTQ+ youth and their families. These occurrences are all rooted in fear and stigma around sexual and reproductive health. But we can break down this stigma by sharing stories. The sign-up link is here.

The second opportunity is a trip to the State Capitol in Albany on May 10 for a rally and meetings with elected officials in support of the Equality Amendment. This effort is in conjunction with our coalition partners the New York Civil Liberties Union and the National Institute for Reproductive Health. Passing the Equality Amendment is critical because as we know in our work, discrimination is far from over. Among other benefits, the Equality Amendment would update our state constitution to protect people from discrimination based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, disability, sex – including pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes – sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

Free bus transportation is available from Suffolk and Westchester counties. We’ll also be hosting an Equality Amendment Teach-In a few days before the event to make sure all activists are prepared to lobby. Reserve a seat here!

We hope you’ll share these opportunities with your networks as you see fit. Thank you for your continued partnership and support!

Best,
