Criminal Legal System Reform Virtual Town Hall

March 23, 2023 @ 7:00 pm

Join NYCLU, Long Island United to Transform Policing and Community Safety, and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock, on Zoom Thursday, February 9th at 7pm for the first of four Criminal Legal System Reform Town Halls. The series, “Criminal Legal Reform, Culture Wars, and Simplified Narratives” is a 4-part series that highlights various components of the criminal legal system and works to build a more nuanced understanding of what community safety means.

In this first session, we will provide an overview of the criminal legal system and take a closer look at the history of the carceral system dating back to the 13th Amendment’s abolition of slavery. We will discuss the loopholes in the 13th Amendment left open to this day in New York and the ways that they impact our current carceral system and the people caught up in it.

Check out the attached flyer for more information on the series & make sure to register at uucsr.org/23CJR.
