Dear Friends and Partners,
I hope this message finds you well!
If you’re available, interested, and have a bit of time to spare, I would love for you to join me in supporting a conversation that is both deeply relevant and transformative—Clothing and the Criminal Justice System.
511 Warburton Ave, Yonkers, NY 10701
In this conversation, I’ll explore how clothing shape identity, fosters self-expression, and serves as a form of resistance within carceral environments. As someone who was formerly incarcerated and has always had a passion for fashion, I’ll discuss how clothing can transform and challenge oppressive systems from within.
This discussion is inspired by the HRM’s exhibition: No Bodies: Clothing as Disruptor, and will also highlight the mission of my organization, 914United. I’ll share insights from my scholarly research on prison and ghetto fashion, as well as my work with the 2022 exhibition Clothing Inside: Addressing American Prisons. We’ll explore how clothing can serve as a tool for empowerment, resistance, and social change.
Given my background in both ghetto and prison fashion, I feel this is the perfect time for us to come together and explore how clothing is central to issues of identity, self-expression, and social transformation.
I hope you can join us for what promises to be an inspiring and thought-provoking conversation. Your presence and support would truly mean a lot to me.
Looking forward to seeing you there!. You can RSVP here: link
