End of Life Choices

September 28, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

From: Laurie Leonard, Executive Director, End of Life Choices New York.

Our annual Barbara Swartz End of Life Choices Lecture will be held on Thursday, September 28, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the New York Society for Ethical Culture, 2 W. 64th Street in Manhattan.

Our speaker will be Dr. Haider Warraich, a young and brilliant new voice in the conversation about death and dying. His debut book, Modern Death: How Medicine Changed the End of Life, explores the rituals and language of dying that have developed in the last century, and how modern technology has not only changed the hows, whens, and wheres of death, but also the what of death.

This presentation will discuss changes in end of life options and care, focusing on the role of medical aid in dying and Dr. Warraich’s reasons for supporting it. Questions and answers will follow the presentation, after which light refreshments will be served.

This event is free and open to the public, but registration closes on September 25th. You can register by clicking here. If you have any questions, email [email protected].

Barbara Swartz was one of the first members of the End of Life Choices New York board of directors and served with distinction for some 15 years, chairing its nominating committee. She was committed to social justice and supported aid in dying as another choice at life’s end. Barbara died in 2014, and the board established the annual lecture in her honor.
