Colia Clark - Clark has traveled extensively in Haiti and is currently working on writing, activism and advocacy about Haiti. She is a veteran of the civil rights movement who worked in Mississippi with the NAACP and the Student NonViolent Coordinating Committee. Her work has included activism in the fields of women's rights and workers' rights, as well as activism and advocacy for homeless people and youth. Most recently, she has worked with the Cynthia McKinney for President campaign with "Power to the People". Clark is a member of the Reconstruction Party (USA), and is a chair of Grandmothers for the Release of Mumia Abu Jamal.
In the 1990s Clark was a Professor at the University of Albany. Clark was the Co-Chair of the New York delegation to the Green Party of the United States Presidential Nominating Convention, where Cynthia McKinney was nominated as the Green Party Presidential candidate. Pierre Leroy - is the president and founder of the Haitian People's Support Project (HPSP). After retiring from teaching romance languages in the New York public school system in 2002, he has since devoted most of his time in developing projects to help his fellow men and women in Haiti.
Pierre left Haiti in 1961 when a whole generation of intellectuals and professionals were fleeing from the repressive era of the Duvalier regimes. Returning home to Haiti 26 years later in 1987, Pierre decided to return the past favor he received from his native country in the form of humanitarian projects by helping the poor, illiterate, and orphans. For the past 16 years, with the help of his collaborators, Pierre has created a solid network of volunteers and supporters for HPSP throughout the United States. Right now, in the wake of the earthquake, the Haitian Peoples Support Project has sent a delegation of medical personnel to Haiti with medical and relief supplies and is continuing to raise funds for medical relief and to support grassroots community projects.
