Join us to support the movement for non-motorized transportation in the lower Hudson Valley on Sept. 28 at the Bronxville Women's Club. We'll be honoring Assemblywoman Amy Paulin and state Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, who sponsored our safe passing bill, which was signed by the governor this summer.
Called Merrill's Law, the measure was passed to carry on the work of cycling advocate Merrill CAssell, who was sideswiped and killed by a Beeline bus in November.
Here's a link to the event, which includes food, drink and music by the Tara O'Grady Trio.
The event will support the work of the Bike Walk Alliance of Weschester & Putnam, which is affiliated with the East Coast Greenway. We've been leading efforts to make our communities more friendly for cyclists and pedestrians. We hosted the Westchester Bike Summit in 2009 and 2010, and organized residents in Carmel to fight that town's efforts to ban parking by the Putnam Trailway. We recently convinced Mamaroneck officials to revisit their onerous biking legislation, leading to enactment of a reasonable law for its downtown area. The Alliance has installed bike racks in downtown Tarrytown, and lobbied Westchester County to install bike racks on county buses. That project, which had been approved by the administration of County Executive Andy Spano, was killed by the Astorino administration when it took power in January.
Hope to see you there!
