One Day Special Workshop with Zahava:
Conscious Body in Community: Saturday, May 1st, 4 - 6 pm
At the WESPAC Space in White Plains
255 Dr. MLK Blvd, second floor
White Plains, NY 10601
Activists are gifted with a connection between the heart, the mind, and action. This two hour community process grounds this connection in our bodies through dance, rhythm, and yoga. We will strengthen, replenish, and release tension to unite our physical bodies with our passionate life force. This invigorating nourishing workshop teaches spiritual, emotional, and physical sustainability for our actions and our communities. Please wear clothes you can move in freely and bring water to drink!
Zahava is grateful to have danced with the choreographer and anthropologist, Ms. Katherine Dunham, Marie Basse Wiles dancing and drumming in Dakar, Senegal as well as the Juilliard School, North Carolina School of the Arts, Tisch School of the Arts, the Alvin Ailey School, and Sarah Lawrence College where she received her BA with a focus on Dance, Community Building, and Institutional Racism. She started training as a dancer at the age of two, began her professional career at eleven with the Joffrey Ballet and has since had the honor of performing with Tania Isaac, Wanjiru Kamuya, Urban Bush Women, Refractions Dance Collective, David Pleasant, Liz Lerman Dance Exchange and White Folks Soul, By Any Dance Necessary, a company she co-founded in February 2008. Her workshops have toured at the national White Privilege Conference. She has performed on BET, at the Kennedy Center, Joe's Pub, the Blue Note, Jacob's Pillow, Dance Place, in schools, gardens, and temples. www.LoveMakingDances.com
