Press conference at City Hall in White Plains!

September 4, 2014 @ 5:45 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us at City Hall in White Plains on September 4.

Tell the public officials who joined the July pro-Israel rally there that they did not speak for you!

WHAT:      Press conference

WHEN:     Thursday, September 4, at 5:45 p.m.

WHERE:  City Hall in White Plains

                 255 Main St.

                 White Plains, NY 10601

(next to Walmart and across from City Center, where there is ample parking)

WHY:      On July 17 twenty-six public officials of Westchester rallied on the steps of City Hall to support the Israeli attacks on Gaza.  To repudiate their action and clearly to demonstrate that they did not speak for a significant portion of their constituents, we will gather to address the media, to present the hundreds of signatures gathered on our petition disavowing their position (see below), and to press the demands that we voiced at the Gaza Solidarity Vigil on August 5 co-sponsored by Concerned Families of Westchester, Jewish Voice for Peace-Westchester, and WESPAC. These are:

  • Stop the massacre of civilians.
  • End the Occupation of Palestine.
  • End the siege of Gaza.
  • Stop U.S. military aid to Israel.

On Sunday, August 17, The Journal News printed an opinion piece entitled “View: Not All New Yorkers Stand with Israel” by three representatives of the organizations that had co-sponsored the August 5 vigil.  It was the opinion of many who had seen local coverage that the reporting had either missed or distorted the purpose of the vigil, and the aim of the piece was clarification of our concerns and demands. If you missed that commentary and wish better to understand the context of the petition and this press conference, go to http://www.lohud.com/story/opinion/contributors/2014/08/16/view-new-york-lawmakers-wrong-israel/14185041/.

Our goal in collecting signatures at the vigil and in posting the petition online was to reach and surpass 500. We are nearly there. If you have not yet signed, please do so. Go to WESPAC’s website: www.wespac.org. An article at the top left of the first page directs you to the petition.
