Nuclear Expert to present information

July 15, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Dear Friends,

You are receiving this very important invitation because you live in the NY Metro area which is directly impacted by the dangerous siting of a huge high pressure gas pipeline only 105 feet from vital structures at the Indian Point nuclear power facility. (Impact region: Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, New Jersey and Connecticut).  Nuclear power, pipeline and medical disaster experts have been calling for a comprehensive, independent and transparent risk assessment of the convergence of these major hazards and have been joined by county legislatures that have passed resolutions, health professionals, scientists, other public officials and the public. Yet, such an analysis was not conducted.  This extremely dangerous project was approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and few options remain to halt this project from moving forward. That’s where you come in!

You are invited and strongly urged to attend a critically important presentation by national experts, Paul Blanch, nuclear expert, (in person) and Mr. Rick Kuprewicz, pipeline expert, (via phone) to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Petition Review Board via conference call that will be held at the Hendrick Hudson Library in Montrose (Westchester) on July 15th at 2 pm.

The public will have the opportunity to view/hear the experts’ presentation to the NRC Petition Review Board about the dangerous siting of this new pipeline next to Indian Point, however, may not participate or speak during the official call. A press conference, hosted by NYS Assemblywoman Galef, will precede the conference call, and a Q & A lead by Mr. Blanch and Mr, Kuprewicz will follow the formal presentation enabling full public participation. Informative resources will be provided.

Please make every effort to attend!

A strong turnout by the public, elected officials and the press is imperative!

What: Paul Blanch, nuclear expert, and Rick Kuprewicz, pipeline expert, will reveal critically important new information about Spectra Energy’s AIM pipeline expansion project’s siting next to the Indian Point nuclear power plant.

Where: Hendrick Hudson Library, 185 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY 10548

When: Wednesday, July 15

Time:

2:00 pm – 2:20pm – Press conference hosted by Assemblywoman Sandy Galef

2:30 pm – 3:30 pm – Presentation to NRC by Paul Blanch and Rick Kuprewicz, pipeline & nuclear experts.

3:30 pm – 4:15 pm – Q & A with audience lead by Paul Blanch and Rick Kuprewicz

Background:

Spectra Energy has received approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to build a new 42 inch diameter, high pressure gas pipeline in very close proximity to vital structures at the Indian Point nuclear power plant as part of the Algonquin Incremental Market (AIM) Project.  Paul Blanch, a nuclear expert, and Rick Kuprewicz, a pipeline safety expert, will reveal that a risk assessment used as the basis for approval of the AIM project must be negated because the Nuclear Regulatory Commission knowingly used erroneous information, not based on sound science, to improperly evaluate the plant’s ability to achieve failsafe shutdown in the event of a pipeline rupture. Pipeline accidents are common. According to U.S. DOT Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, there were 119 pipeline accidents in 2014 alone.
